Underwriting Hub France Team Leader
Central Europe Small and Medium Enterprises
Madrid, Spain
“In Europe, I was established. But when I moved to New York I was forced to get out of my comfort zone. It was an amazing opportunity to develop a specialty in cyber underwriting and meet important mentors and connections.”
Aldo Borsani was looking for professional growth. At Chubb, he was able to advance his career by developing new areas of expertise and taking on responsibility for managing people.
Originally from Italy, Aldo already had a successful career in the beverage industry when a recruiter tapped him for a position at Chubb. The opportunity fit his career goals — “Insurance seemed challenging — a chance for me to really grow professionally.”
A year after getting his Chubb start as an international coordinator for the global services team in Paris, Aldo got the mobility he sought when, he says, “I was offered the possibility of literally doing what I wanted to further develop my career.” Given a choice of staying in his department or moving to claims, to underwriting, or to one of a number of other teams, he chose underwriting.
Aldo was reassigned to the professional risk underwriting team in New York City where he worked on technology, errors and omissions and professional indemnity in addition to cyber. He particularly enjoyed the team’s strong focus on cyber-related products. “Cyber was a major new area of growth for our company so it was an amazing opportunity to see up close how this coverage is continuing to evolve and change with the times.”
Exposure to international markets and different areas of expertise has broadened Aldo’s insurance knowledge. He also notes that “Chubb has supported my career mobility and my continuous development — including sponsorship to receive executive education in the U.S. at Carnegie Mellon University where the company has designed a program called CCIC — Cyber Cope Insurance Certification.”
Aldo’s successful career trajectory continues. Currently in Madrid, he leads a Chubb underwriting team that focuses on French businesses in the Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) segment. Besides the movement into managing people, he’s further expanded his areas of expertise and is responsible for the directors and officers (D&O), casualty and marine business in addition to cyber — and is excited to see what’s next.
